- Wayne was a multi-sport athlete for Waterloo from 1961-1966
- A member of the football team for five seasons, Wayne played both sides of the ball for the entire game every game. He was named to the First Ontario Intercollegiate Football Conference All Star team in 1965
- Wayne was a star Shot Putter and Discus thrower for the UW Track and Field team for four years. He won several titles at the OIAA level in both events. He received two honour letters and two Warrior Crests during his track and field career
- Wayne was the recipient of “The Honour of an Outstanding Athlete Career” award in 1965 which was the highest honour an Athlete could receive at the time
- Wayne received a total of Seven Honour Letters and six Warrior crests
- He graduated from Waterloo in 1966 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Bachelor of Arts in Geography.
