Ways to Play for Staff

Funded by the Staff Excellence Fund 

To support the health and well-being of our campus community, we’re offering a variety of options for staff to take a break, be active, have some fun, connect with others, rejuvenate and refocus.  

Notes:

  • This programming is funded by the Staff Excellence Fund, so participants are not required to purchase an Athletics & Recreation Membership.
  • Staff registered for this programming will have access to the general change rooms before and after their sessions.  
  • If you are interested in accessing the facilities or registering for programming beyond the scope of these offerings, an Athletics & Recreation Membership is required.

To Register:

  1. Sign up for a FREE SEF Staff Membership. This membership will grant you access to register for individual offerings. Note: Signing up for this membership does not register you for, or commit you to, the programs listed below.
  2. Registration for individual offerings will open 7 days prior to each activity. Once you have a SEF Staff Membership, click on the link for the activity you are interested in to register.

Canceling a Registration

  • If you have registered for a SEF program offering and no longer wish to attend, please cancel your registration following the steps below:
    1. Login to your Warrior Athletics and Recreation Account
    2. Select your user name (top right hand of your screen)
    3. Select 'Profile'
    4. Select 'Program Registrations'
    5. Select the three vertical dots beside the class you wish to cancel
    6. Select 'Cancel Registration'

    SEF Schedule

    During the Winter 2025 term, staff will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of fitness and movement opportunities on campus. Offerings include staff workouts, yoga, Pilates, Essentrics, rock climbing, Zumba, Muay Thai, Pickleball, Tai Chi, and spin! Check out the calendar below for the full schedule. To register, select on the session you are interested in and click the registration link. Registration opens 7 days in advance to the session.


    Offering Descriptions

    Attire: Breathable clothing, shoes and harnesses will be supplied

    Try a new type of movement and take advantage of our new climbing facility! Our climbing facilities houses both bouldering walls (no harness required) and auto belays, and roped climbing. Our qualified staff will be happy to belay you on roped climbs.

    These bootcamp-style classes are open to all who are looking to incorporate more movement into their day. Activities will target a combination of strength, cardiovascular fitness, stability, and overall health. Everyone is welcome, and modifications will be offered to ensure you get the best workout for you!

    Attire: Breathable clothing, no footwear required

    Soul soothing yoga, this class is meant to let the body take over so you can move with freedom and expression. Emphasizing full body movement with a different focus each class, expect an ever-expanding practice. Whether it is your first-time trying yoga, or you are an enthusiast, this class will meet you where you are at.

    Attire: Breathable clothing, no footwear required

    The many benefits of Pilates include enhanced flexibility, core strength, and postural alignment. Whether it is your first-time trying Pilates, or you are an enthusiast, this class will meet you where you are at.

    Attire: Breathable clothing, sneakers / trainers

    Experience the joy of movement in this heart-pumping, foot-stomping, high-energy class. Zumba is an upbeat workout that incorporates moves inspired by a fusion of Latin-American dance such as salsa, merengue, and samba, and modern hip-hop. Move and groove to your favourite tunes, learn playful choreography, and improve coordination and cardiovascular endurance in this dance-based fitness class

    Attire: Breathable clothing, sneakers / trainers

    Experience the perfect pairing of high-intensity and low-impact. Accompanied by catchy beats, instructors will lead you through a series of flat roads, hills, sprints, and drills, all without having to leave the studio! This class will strengthen your legs and improve cardiovascular endurance. Hop on a stationary bike and pedal your stress away!

    Attire: Breathable clothing

    Muay Thai is a striking martial art that uses powerful punches, elbows, knees, and kicks! The art of 8 limbs increases speed, endurance, strength, coordination, and flexibility. This class will be suitable for beginners. No previous martial arts experience is required. Boxing gloves and other equipment is provided.

    Essentrics® is a dynamic, full-body workout that combines elements of stretching and strengthening. Often described as a blend of tai chi, ballet, and physiotherapy techniques, it places emphasis on improving posture, flexibility, and mobility. The workout involves slow, flowing movements that lengthen and strengthen muscles simultaneously, which makes it gentle on the joints and suitable for a wide range of fitness levels.

    Attire: Breathable clothing, sneakers / trainers

    Participate in a casual pickleball game with your colleagues! Games will not be refereed. A positive, non-competitive environment is encouraged. Paddles and balls will be available to borrow, however, you are welcome to bring your own as well.

    This class will provide instruction on the traditional Tai Chi Yang style 24 form. Designed specifically for beginners, participants will be guided through each posture with detailed instructions, ensuring they grasp the essence and flow of Tai Chi. In addition to learning the sequence of movements, the class emphasizes the many health benefits associated with Tai Chi, including improved balance, increased flexibility, and enhanced mental clarity. Tai Chi is also known for reducing stress and promoting relaxation. With its gentle, flowing movements, this practice is accessible to all fitness levels and is an excellent way to enhance both physical and emotional well-being.

    New Program - SEF Weight Training Fundamentals

    SEF - Weight Training Fundamentals is a drop-in class designed to welcome you into our fitness centres. You will learn the fundamentals of resistance training, technique and form and get your questions answered with your trainer! Classes will run Mondays and Thursdays for 45 minutes in the PAC Fitness Centre. Our goal is to improve your overall physical strength. All levels are welcome - exercise options can be modified to meet your needs.

    Please check in with your trainer in the PAC 1069 office just inside the PAC Fitness Centre doors upon your arrival.

    Participants must have an SEF Staff Membership to register in this program.
