Women's Golf

Devon Rizzo joins women's golf coaching staff

One of the most decorated female golfers in the history of the program is coming back to the black and gold as an assistant coach. Devon Rizzo (Brantford) will join head coach Carla Munch to lead the women's golf team for the 2018 season.

"I am absolutely delighted to have Rizzo join our program as an assistant coach," said Munch. "As a Warrior, Devon excelled both on the golf course and in the classroom and she was an absolute pleasure to coach; always willing to learn and go beyond her limits to reach success. These attributes and more will give her the tools necessary to be a great mentor for our student-athletes."

Rizzo joined the Warriors in 2010 where she collected three OUA individual gold medals in just five events played.  She also shot the lowest score in OUA women's golf history twice, with a pair of 70's while leading Waterloo to their first ever OUA championship title.

The following season Rizzo again led her team to the top as the Warriors won their second straight OUA banner.  In 2012, Rizzo captured the University/College golf championship, which qualified her to compete in the World Golf Championship in Czech Republic.

Fast forward five years and Rizzo reached the pinnacle in OUA golf earning a spot on the all-star team five straight seasons while winning the individual title once (2013).  Rizzo was also the recipient of the 2014 Marsden Trophy as Waterloo's top female athlete. That summer, Rizzo capped off her Warrior career in style, earning a spot on team Canada at the FISU World University games in Gwangju, Korea.

Rizzo will hope to continue a successful run for the women's golf program, with the team having medalled in 11 straight years at the OUA Championship.

"I am honoured to come back to my roots and help our student-athletes reach their potential," said Rizzo. "Waterloo (and Carla) played a big part in becoming the person I am today and I hope to be able to use the skills learnt to guide a successful group of Warriors."

Rizzo and Munch will hope to lead the Warriors to the top of the OUA podium for the first time since Rizzo led her team to OUA gold in 2011.
