The Waterloo Warriors Women's Golf team made an impressive showing at the 2024 Waterloo Women's Invitational, securing a solid finish in a competitive field. Held over two days, the tournament saw 16 teams battling it out on the course, with some thrilling performances from individual players and intense competition in the team rankings.
Team Performance
Waterloo fielded a strong team, with their "Waterloo Gold" squad finishing third overall with a total score of 487, just two strokes behind Queens (480) and four strokes behind the tournament leaders, the Toronto - Blue team, which secured first place with a score of 475. The depth and resilience of the Waterloo team were on full display as they kept pace with some of the top golf programs in the country.
Other notable team finishes included Brock and Carleton, both tied at 491, as well as Laurier with a score of 496, and Guelph rounding out the top eight at 502.
Standout Individual Performances
Waterloo's Abby Barker (Kitchener/) led the charge for the Warriors, finishing tied for 9th place in the individual standings. Barker scored 79 on Day 1 and 82 on Day 2, for a total of 161. Her consistent play over both rounds placed her in a competitive group of top finishers.
Hana Yoshida (Richmond Hill/) and Alyssa Jamal (Mombasa/) also contributed to the team's performance, each finishing with a two-day total of 164. They tied for 17th place, showing the depth of talent on the Warriors' roster.
Waterloo's Addison McClune (Rothesay/) posted a solid total of 173 over the two days, while Abbey Schill (Waterloo/) and Daneka Miller (Paris ON/) finished closely behind with scores of 197 and 200, respectively.
Top Finishers
The top individual finishers showcased some stellar golf, with Katie Neville of Queens taking the overall individual title. Neville's consistent play led her to a two-day total of 153 (75 on Day 1, 78 on Day 2), just edging out Anna Foley from Toronto by a single stroke. Foley finished with a total of 154 (79, 75), followed by Brock's Olivia Stoddart in third place with a score of 156 (79, 77).
Toronto's Mia Wong (158), Laurier's Kristi Godkin (159), and Brock's Casey Kenney (160) were also among the top contenders, contributing to their teams' strong finishes.
