Box Score 2 The Waterloo men's soccer team opened up their 2015 season with a pair of road games at McMaster and Guelph. The Warriors did not fare well in their season opener falling to the Marauders 6-0 but bounced back on Sunday with a much better effort against the Gryphons in a hard fought 2-1 loss.
Waterloo opened the scoring in Sunday's match as rookie strike
Jae Jin Lee (Toronto) netted his first goal as a Warrior in the 34
th minute.
The Warriors would hold onto their lead into the second half with netminder
Hansel Paico-Avilez (Oakville) standing on his head for the black and gold making several strong saves. The Gryphons would however solve the third year goalie in the 51
st minute as Justin Springer got the Gryphons on the board to even the score at one's.
Only four minutes later, Guelph found the go ahead goal with Atchu Siva firing one past Paico-Avilez to put Guelph up 2-1. From there the Warriors could not penetrate the strong Gryphon defence as they would drop their second straight game to open the season.
Waterloo will be back in action next Saturday as they take on cross-town rivals Laurier Golden Hawks at 3:15pm before taking on Guelph in a rematch on Sunday.
