The Waterloo men's rugby team was dealt a very difficult schedule to start the OUA season but the black and gold are now into the second half of their season and made good in their first contest, defeating Trent 27-7 in Peterborough on Friday night.
Paul Schroeder (New Dundee/New Dundee) opened the scoring for the Warriors with a penalty to put Waterloo up 3-0. The Excalibur then took the lead on a blocked kick. The successful convert made it 7-3 in favour of Trent. Before the half came to a close, Schroeder punched in a try to give his Warriors an 8-7 lead into half.
Waterloo took complete control in the second half with the wind at their back. Mitch Voralek (Waterloo/) ran in two tries to give him 10 points on the night while Alexander Bukva (Waterloo/) also had a try in the win.
"We have been working on getting the team to play a full 80 minutes and they finally delivered tonight," said head coach Tyler Greer. "Our scrum was excellent and kept Trent out of the game. We played excellent on defense the entire game with Trent's only score coming off a blocked kick they recovered. We need to clean up a few aspects of our game, but overall we are really starting to play well."
The Warriors will be back in action next Friday at CIF Field #1 against RMC. Game time is set for 4pm.
