This Saturday, the Waterloo Warriors took on the Guelph Gryphons in the OUA semi final, hoping to end Guelph's streak of three consecutive championships. The Warriors came into the game with momentum after a dominant 64-17 quarter final win over the Trent Excalibur, setting the stage for what promised to be an exciting showdown.
Waterloo started strong, challenging Guelph early and managing to match their energy in the opening exchanges. The Gryphons opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a try, but the Warriors quickly responded with a try of their own, bringing the score close, though missing the conversion to trail by two points. In the sixteenth minute, Guelph extended their lead to 14-5, but the Warriors fought back, converting a penalty kick just three minutes later to cut the deficit to 14-8.
From there, however, Guelph seized control, finding their rhythm and asserting dominance in the mid game. They went on to score a number of unmatched tries, ultimately overpowering the Warriors and securing a decisive 66-8 victory.
Though the result wasn't in Waterloo's favor, the Warriors demonstrated resilience and tenacity against the formidable Gryphons.
