The Warriors had a successful weekend winning two of the three matches on their schedule. The weekend started with an away match on Friday evening against UOIT Ridgebacks, York Lions on Saturday and back home on Sunday to host the McMaster Marauders.
The Warriors had an easy time winning 7-0 against the mostly inexperienced Ridgebacks. None of the Warriors lost more than three games and most won without dropping a game.Â
On the outdoor courts on Saturday at York University, the Warriors faced a much more accomplished team in the Lions. While York did not put out its premier line of players, who are proving to be the most powerful line up this year, those who played on Saturday were solid players. Â The highlights of the day for Waterloo were no. 4
Nicole Holland (Oakville) winning in three sets, no. 2 doubles team of
Colleen Fernandes (Mississauga) and
Nathalie Skaf (Mississauga) squeezing out an 8-7 win after saving four match points in the tie-break, Fernandes at no.2 and
Trisha Abraham (Mississauga) at no. 6 taking their opponents to three sets.
Back at home on Sunday, the Warriors put up an impressive performance to sweep McMaster 7-0. The day started off with all three doubles teams winning and gaining the doubles point. This sweep was to continue into the singles round which included rookie
Emma Tamlin (Lindsay/Fenelon Falls Secondary School) playing her first varsity match. The entire team played well and the convincing victory was well earned.
