Waterloo 5, Queen's 2
Â
The Warriors men's tennis ended their regular season on a positive note with an exhibition match against the Queen's Gaels when the two teams faced off at the
Waterloo Tennis Club on Saturday.
Queen's, though not an official OUA varsity team, has always managed to have solid tennis players; the quality of their tennis has been consistently good over the past years. Having to play the Gaels as the last match was a perfect tune up for the Warriors as they prepare for the OUA championships scheduled for this upcoming Thanksgiving weekend Oct. 11-13 at the Mayfair Club East in Markham.
Several of the Warriors were unavailable due to mid- term exams, obligations and niggling injuries but the situation gave the remaining Warriors the opportunity to step up and they did not disappoint.
The Warriors came through with the doubles point when teams #1 and #2 won 8-3 and 8-5 respectively.Â
The Warriors then took four of the singles matches played to win 5-2 overall. Most of the matches were keenly contested which was what was expected and needed to hone their match play forms.  The Waterloo Warriors placed second after the regular season and will be rewarded with a number two seeding at the OUA Championships.

The Warriors women's team hosted the last match of their regular season with an exhibition match at the
Waterloo Tennis Club this past Saturday.
Despite being an unofficial varsity team, the Gaels have always been able to provide good players for their exhibition matches and this past weekend was no exception. For the mainly rookie Warriors, this additional opportunity to gain more match experience against useful players, was welcomed.
Though the overall score was one-sided, several of the matches were close. Like their male counterparts, the women's team were without two of their top players. Their usual no. 1 and 2 players, were ailing with flu symptoms.
Waterloo was unable to capture the doubles point as only its' no. 1 team of
Vanessa Seto (Richmond Hill/) and
Nathalie Skaf (San Jose, Costa Rica/) were able to win their match at 8-6. The no. 2 team put up a good fight climbing their way back from being 4-7 down to 6-7 but couldn't get the next game to level the set and lost 6-8.
There were two competitive matches at no. 1 and no. 4 which unluckily for the Warriors went to the Gaels.'Â
Nathalie Skaf (San Jose, Costa Rica/), playing at no. 3 provided the sole win for Waterloo. Skaf was the most successful player for the women on the weekend winning both her singles and doubles matches.
The Warriors will be participating in the season-ending OUA Championships scheduled for this upcoming weekend Oct. 11-13 at the Mayfair Club East, Markham. Â The Warriors are currently at 4 heading into the OUA Championship but that may change depending on the result of a rain delayed match between York and Brock.
