Box Score The #2 CIS ranked York Lions showed why they are one of the best teams in the nation, defeating the Warriors 6-0 on their home turf. York got tallies from six different scorers, including four half-time substitutes. The black and gold continue to search for their first victory on the season.
York didn't waste any time putting pressure on the Warriors and push them back in their own third of the pitch. Dena Iezady opened the scoring for the Lions in the 9th minute off a broken play that went across Waterloo's goal and was tapped in. In the 28th minute, Henry Moody was able to connect on the end of a corner kick past goalkeeper Tomas Nodjesch to push the score to 2-0. York maintained possession through to half-time.
York made five substitutions at half-time and these fresh legs seemed to ignite the Lions even more. Waterloo made a goaltending switch to allow Adam Weller (Keswick) his first action of the season, but he was put in an uncomfortable position.
York's Joey Cicchillo would score a gimme off a nice outside cross from Devante Walker in the 53rd minute to put the game out of reach. Matt Arnone, Walker, and Jarek Whiteman all added goals in the second half to push the score to 6-0.
The Warriors are hoping to change their season around this Sunday when they travel to Windsor to take on the Lancers.
