The Warriors opened their 2014 varsity campaign at home on Saturday losing to the Montreal Carabins. Although not nearly as dominant of a team as they were a few years ago, the women Carabins are still very good and have consistent players competing on their roster.
The Warriors this year have more depth and the players have been getting steadily better. As a result, many of the matches were competitive affairs. The women struggled throughout the weekend and could not muster a win going 0-7.
Two of the Warriors were very close to achieving wins but both lost 5-7 in the third set.
Colleen Fernandes (Mississauga/) playing at number three and rookie
Manasi Guggali (Brampton/) at number five gave Waterloo their best chance for a victory. Guggali's match, the final match of the day, had both schools encouraging their players when it became a war of attrition. Both women suffered cramps late in the third set and each were determined to outlast the other.

The results on Sunday against Western followed the same pattern as the day prior. The Warriors went without a win but again, matches were very competitive. Number two
Nathalie Skaf (Mississauga/) came close before losing in three sets; the only three set match on Sunday. The number two doubles team of
Nathalie Skaf (Mississauga/) and
Colleen Fernandes (Mississauga/) have been playing especially well, losing 6-8 to Western on Sunday and 7-8 to Montreal on Saturday.
The Warriors will have a busy weekend ahead of them, travelling to Oshawa Friday to play OUIT, a date with York on Saturday, then back home to host McMaster on Sunday.
