Men's Soccer

Warriors open season with pair of losses

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The men's soccer team opened up their 2014 season on the wrong foot falling to Guelph 5-1 and Laurier 3-1.

In Waterloo's season opener, the black and gold were simply outclassed being outshot 16-2 and not generating enough pressure up-field.  Yusuf Khaled (Burlington/) was the lone goal scorer for the Warriors.

The Warriors would however turn in a much better effort on Sunday in their home opening loss to Laurier.  Waterloo stuck with the tough Golden Hawk squad through the opening 45 minutes and if not for a few lapses could have found the win column.

Down 1-0 early in the contest, rookie forward Andres Benavides (Monterrey/) made a brilliant play in the box to head in a corner in the 45th minute.  Benavides' marker made it 1-1 heading into half.

Laurier would come out flying in the second half and substitute Tyrrel Wilson found the net twice in as many minutes to give Laurier their first win of the season.

Goalie Thomas Modjesch (Hateg/) took the loss while Mackenzie Craig got his first win of the young season.

Waterloo will be back in action on Wednesday when they welcome Western to Warrior Field.  Kickoff is set for 6:15pm.
