Lauren McEwan (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) 20 points led the Queen's Gaels to a 45-12 win over the Waterloo Warriors in OUA women's rugby action today at Nixon Field. The center scored two tries and kicked five conversions as the Gaels cruised to a victory.
Queen's started the game strong with an early try in the ninth minute
Sydnee Nolan (Chatham, Ont.). The Waterloo Warriors organized their defense resulting in the Gaels not being able to break their back lines until the 30
th minutes of play when
Bronwyn Corrigan (Waterloo,Ont.) scored the second try for the Gaels, while McEwan kicked the conversion.
This started a ten minute scoring run for the Gaels with tries from Karley Heyman from (Harrowsmith, Ont.),
Jenna Ledson (Bolton,Ont.), and
Miranda Seifert (Regina, Saks.). Each try was followed by a successful conversion from Lauren McEwan, bringing the score to 33-0 at the half.
Waterloo started the second half with more momentum to the Gaels resulting in an early try from
Danielle Duncan (Waterloo/) and a conversion from
Emily Sanderson (New Hamburg/).
The Gaels fought back with two tries and a conversion from McEwan. The Warriors finished the game with a try from
Jessica Delaney (Stratford/) (Erin, Ont.), resulting in a 45-12 victory for the Gaels.
With the regular season coming to the end the Warriors will finish third overall in the OUA Shiels Division and will face the Western Mustangs in London on Friday, October 11 at 6pm in the OUA quarter-finals.
