Devon Rizzo (Brantford/) capped off her tremendous 2013 OUA golf season with her third individual title of the season taking home the top prize at this year's championship. The fourth year management engineering student shot rounds of 73 and 74 to finish 3-over par to capture the individual gold medal by 7-strokes over second place Jessie Mercer of Western. Kiersten Klekner-Alt of Ottawa rounded out the top three.
The OUA championship has been Rizzo's Achilles heel after dominating most of the field the last four seasons but Rizzo kept to the game plan and struck the ball consistently throughout both rounds of this years' championship played at the Cambridge Golf Club.
Rizzo's Warriors however could not catch Toronto who held a 5-stroke lead going into the final round of the championship. Waterloo made a valiant effort to grab the team gold medal but would settle for silver after finishing only 1-stroke back of the OUA champions, Varsity Blues. As a team Waterloo shot 480 compared to Toronto's 479 while Western claimed the bronze medal with their team total of 495.
Heather Wogden (Barrie/) was the next best Warrior firing two consistent rounds of 82 and 83 (21-over for the championship) to finish 10
th overall.
Jane Tang (Toronto/) and
Stephanie Chu (Markham/) tied for 14
th spot with their two-day total of 171.
