Warriors upset #6 Lions, lose to Brock

Saturday, Sept. 18 vs. York
Waterloo 2, York 1

The Waterloo Warriors upset the sixth ranked team in the country, York Lions by a score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Waterloo.

After conceiving an early goal at the hands of Daniel Fabrizi (Brampton, Ont.) of the Lions, the Warriors Adam Craig (Toronto, Ont.) would even the score at one only four minutes later.  The Lions and Warriors would exchange many chances throughout the first half but the score remained tied at one.

In the second half, second year forward Sohyb Basir (Waterloo, Ont.) would notch his second goal of the season in the 63rd minute to give the Warriors the lead.  Keeper Rob McMillan would make some key saves to preserve the victory and upset for the Warriors.

The win put Waterloo in a tie for second place heading into Sunday's match up with Brock.

Sunday, Sept. 19 @ Brock
Brock 3, Waterloo 1

Following the upset of the Lions, the Warriors looked to continue their momentum as they faced the Brock Badgers.

 

Inconsistency has been the name of the game for the Warriors this season as they dropped the contest 3-1, a disappointing loss following such a high on Saturday. 

The Warriors led after the first half but Brock answered with three of their own in the second to secure the victory. 

Striker Billy Bean (Waterloo, Ont.) scored his second of the season and only marker for the Warriors in this match.  Scoring for Brock was Nick Ianiri (Stoney Creek, Ont.), Daniel Baldassarro (Niagara Falls, Ont.) and Kosta Kranjisnik (Niagara Falls, Ont.). 

Next up for the Warriors (3-3-0) who sit tied for third is a meeting with the York Lions who will be hungry for revenge.  Game is set for this Wednesday, September 22 at York (3-2).
