Men's soccer split weekend games

Saturday, Sept. 11 at Guelph

Waterloo picked up their first win of the season as they defeated the Gryphons on Saturday afternoon in Guelph.  Forward Sohyb Basir (Waterloo/) scored the first goal of the season for the Warriors in the 42nd minute as he put one past rookie goaltender Chad Paparoni (Burlington, Ont.).  Sound defence and solid goaltending by Rob McMillan (Newburgh/) (Newburgh,Ont.) earned the Warriors their first win and shutout of the season. 

Sunday, Sept. 12 vs. McMaster

The Warriors lost a hard fought battle against the McMaster Marauders by a score of 2-1 at the Columbia Icefields on Sunday afternoon.  Following a scoreless first half, Anthony Costa (Stoney Creek, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Marauders, his second of the season.  Fullback Kurtis Lubbers (Wallaceburg/) (Wallaceburg, Ont.) would provide the equalizer for the Warriors in the 70th minute.  Oladayo Odutayo (Niagara Falls, Ont.) scored the winner in the 80th minute to secure the win for McMaster.  The Warriors felt they deserved better fate after failing to capitalize on many chances.  Waterloo (1-2-0) face the dominate York Lions (2-1-0) at home on Saturday, September 18 while the Marauders travel to Guelph to face the Gryphons on September 19.
