Warriors mourn loss of former Warriors (Athenas) women’s volleyball and track and field coach Pat Davis

Pat Davis
The Department of Athletics and Recreation is saddened to hear of the passing of former women's volleyball and track and field coach Pat Davis this week at the age of 90.

Davis, one of the most influential builders in the history of the Department of Athletics and Recreation, joined the University in 1967 coaching both the track and field program for three years (1967-1970) and the women's volleyball team for 18 years (1967-1985). She was also the Coordinator of Women's Athletics at Waterloo until 1989. Davis led her Athenas to two Ontario Women's Interuniversity Athletic Association (OWIAA) volleyball titles in 1969 and 1971 while finishing her coaching career with an overall winning percentage of 65%.

Davis was inducted into the Warriors Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Ontario Volleyball Association Hall of Fame in 2019.

"Pat was very instrumental in the early growth years and held many OWIAA committee positions that informed the way women's sport developed in Ontario at the intercollegiate level.  She was a thoughtful and creative thinker as the development of sport required that time to move forward and valued the historical aspects of sport.  The student-athletes appreciated her coaching approach and were successful." Judy McCrae, former Director, Department of Athletics and Recreation.
