WATERLOO, Ont. - Track and Field's
Ben Lemon (Waterloo, ON) and Men's Basketball's
Isaiah Mcrae have been named the W Store Warriors Athletes of the Week, presented by
Imprint.
"Ben had a dominant showing at the Windsor Can Am Classic this weekend... a tactical masterclass in the 600m" said Warriors Head Coach
Kate Bickle-Ferth.
"Despite being ranked last in his heat, he executed his race plan perfectly, holding his own in the middle of the pack before unleashing a dominant kick in the final lap to cross the line first. His winning time of 1:21.34, his second-best ever, moved him to the #2 ranking in the OUA and #11 in U SPORTS, positioning him well for the upcoming Championships."
Ben also set the fastest splits in both the 4x200m and 4x400m relays. His speed helped drive the 4x200m squad to a season-best time, along with a sixth-place finish and a #11 national ranking. He also anchored the 4x400m team to a strong fourth-place finish.
This is Lemon's third Warriors Athlete of the Week Award, and second this season.
He will be racing next in London at the Don Wright Team Challenge, hosted by Western.
Averaging 18.5 pts, 6.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds in 23 minutes/game over the weekend, "Isaiah started the 2nd half of the year with back to back overall performances" said Warriors Basketball Head Coach
Troy Stevenson. "He set the tone for two dominant wins... got everyone involved [and rebounded] at a high level for an undersized guard."
The efficient Point Guard shot a blistering 4-7 from 3 and 8-13 from the field, scoring 25 points in the first of 2 blowout wins against Algoma. A fantastic all around game as he also helped out on the defensive end with 8 rebounds and 2 steals. His 7 assists capped off his elite performance.
This is Mcrae's fourth Warriors Athlete of the Week award, and second this season.
