Men's soccer took care of business on the weekend, defeating the visiting Algoma Thunderbirds in their final two games of the season on home field. With the six points, Waterloo secured fifth spot in the OUA West standings and will face the Western Mustangs on Wednesday night in London in the opening round of the playoffs.
On Saturday, the Warriors cruised past Algoma by a score of 7-1 led by
James Arango (Mississauga/) and
Robson Lamond (Calgary/) who each had two goals while
Luka Frankovich (Oakville/),
Perry Zorbas (Oakville/) and
Sebastian Guerrieri (Oakville/) each added a solo marker.
On Sunday, Algoma gave Waterloo a much tougher test with the score 5-3 in favour of the Warriors with 10 minutes remaining but Guerrieri put away his hat trick goal to secure the 6-3 Waterloo victory. Also scoring in the season finale was Zorbas, Arango, and Frankovich.
Waterloo finished the season on a three game winning streak and a record of 5-5-2 for 17 points. They hope to avenge their 3-2 loss earlier in the season to the Mustangs on Wednesday in hopes of advancing to the second round of the OUA Playoffs.
