Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Warriors win thrilling playoff match over Western in penalty kicks

Men's soccer travelled to London on Wednesday night to battle the Western Mustangs in the OUA west quarter-finals and came away with a thrilling 3-3 (5-4 in penalty kicks) victory. Waterloo battled back from an early 0-2 deficit to punch their ticket to the next round against the No. 1 York Lions.

Western took an early 1-0 lead just 11 minutes in off the foot of Charlie Bontis before Daniel Oshana made it 2-0 for the home side in the 24th minute.

Down by two goals into the 69th minute, the turning point came for the black and gold when Western's Dino Bontis took a red card sending Sebastian Guerrieri (Oakville/) to the dot for a penalty kick. He would make no mistake to cut the deficit in half.

Seven minutes later, Waterloo found the equalizer as Matthew DeMichelle put one past the Western keeper to make it a 2-2 game.

The game would go into extra time and Waterloo took advantage of Western playing down a man as Nikolas Antolcic (Kitchener/) scored to make it a 3-2 Warrior advantage. The Mustangs somehow managed to tie the game at 3's playing two men down after another red card in the 103rd minute sending the game to penalty kicks.

All five Warriors would score including the winning shot from Matthew Mills (Waterloo/) while Lorin-Alexander Lopez (Toronto/) came into the game in relief of Simon Grande (Hamilton/) making a key stop on the fourth Western shooter to secure the victory.

Waterloo will now look to earn a big upset win over the undefeated York Lions (10-0-2) on Saturday when they battle the Lions at 4:15pm on Alumni Field in Toronto.
