After dropping their first game of the season on Friday night to Ryerson the No. 4 ranked women's volleyball team bounced back with a solid 3-1 win over Guelph on Sunday evening at the PAC.
It was a milestone victory for fifth year captain
Sarah Remedios (Ajax/) as the defensive specialist surpassed the
700 career digs mark with 16 digs in the match.
After dropping the opening set 23-25, Waterloo won the next three, 25-18, 25-14, 25-23 to improve to an astounding 15-1 on the season.
Claire Gagne (Cambridge/) had a very clean match for the Warriors with 36 assists, eight digs and two service aces. In a tight fourth set, Gagne made some clutch digs down the stretch to secure the match for her Warriors.
On the attack the dynamic rookie duo of
Ella Stewart (Ottawa/) and
Sarah Glynn (Fredericton/) led the way with 16 kills each. Stewart was also fantastic at the net with six blocks and added an ace and two digs in a very polished match. Glynn chipped in with one block, two service aces and six digs.
Claire Mackenzie (Vancouver/) and
Samantha Warner (Ayr/) rounded out Waterloo's offence with eight and six kills respectively.
The Warriors remain comfortably in first in the OUA west with 30 points while Brock sits second at 24 and Western and McMaster tied for the final two playoff spots at 20 points each.
The Warriors will close out their home portion of the schedule this Friday against the Brock Badgers who will come in having won seven straight. The game starts at 6pm and can be seen live on OUA.tv.
