Women's volleyball picked up their 16th win of the season topping Brock 3-1 on Senior Night at the PAC. Waterloo snapped a 7-game win streak for the Badgers who came in red hot and started that way in this match.
Brock jumped out to an early 7-2 lead and didn't look back to take the opening set 25-18. The Warriors found their stride as
Richard Eddy shook up his lineup to get the black and gold going. The mixup worked as Waterloo won the next two sets 25-23, 25-23 and then cruised to the finish line in the fourth, winning it 25-16.
Sarah Glynn (Fredericton/) led the way with 16 points on 13 kills, two blocks and two service aces. She also had six digs in the win.
Claire Mackenzie (Vancouver/) was next with 15.5 points, including a stretch of four service aces that gave her Warriors a 15-9 lead in the fourth, putting the match out of reach for the visiting Badgers.
Ella Stewart (Ottawa/) and
Brooklyn Gallant (Cambridge/) rounded out Waterloo's attack with eight and six points respectively while
Claire Gagne (Cambridge/) had 28 assists and
Katrine Eistrat (Toronto/) had six.
Defensively
Sarah Remedios (Ajax/) made 14 digs including a spectacular one on match point seen here.
For Brock it was Laura Condotta leading the way with 10 kills.
The No. 4 Warriors are now 16-1 on the season and sit well out front in the west and are first place overall in the OUA. They will close out their season next weekend with a pair of road games, first at Western on Friday followed by a trip to Windsor on Sunday to battle the Lancers.
Waterloo knows they will be hosting the OUA quarter-finals on Saturday, March 2 at the PAC but will be focussing on closing out their season with two wins, while practicing good habits and consistency.
Note: Prior to the match Waterloo honoured five cornerstones of their program,
Brooklyn Gallant (Cambridge/), Sarah Remdios,
Sarina Trasolini (Vancouver/),
Claire Mackenzie (Vancouver/) and
Samantha Warner (Ayr/), all who have contributed to building the program to where it is today.
