Warriors use team effort to topple Badgers

Box Score On paper it would be considered an upset but to Head Coach Richard Eddy and the women's volleyball team, it's another win, an important win, as the No. 9 Warriors took out the No. 7 Brock Badgers in five sets on Friday night.

It was a packed PAC with over 650 fans in attendance witnessing some of the best volleyball in the province. The Warriors took a commanding two set lead, winning the first 25-18 and second 25-16, and it looked as if they would cruise to the finish line. The Badgers however showed why they were 6-1 coming in, winning the next two sets to send the match to a fifth.

In the fifth Mackenzie Vallee (Waterdown/) and Sarah Glynn (Fredericton/) had some timely kills while the Warrior defence stepped up to win the decisive set 15-11 and match 3-2.

Glynn led the way with 20.5 points on 15 kills and a game high five aces. She also had 12 digs and one block in the win. Vallee and Karen Fan (Oakville/) both had career nights with 17 and 16 points respectively. Vallee put down 14 kills and added three service aces while Fan tallied 11 kills and had a game high four blocks.

Up the middle, Ella Stewart (Ottawa/) and Serena Otshudi (Stoney Creek/) were a major one-two punch in the match with eight and six kills respectively while combining for five blocks.

Claire Gagne (Cambridge/) had a solid night setting up the Warriors all night long, earning a very impressive 50 assists while adding three service aces and 13 digs. On defence, Jenna Gravina (Burlington/) picked up 10 digs in was solid with her passing throughout the contest.

The Warriors are now 4-3 on the season and wrap up their fall term tonight in Hamilton against McMaster. Game time is 6pm and the game can be seen live on OUA.tv.
