The No. 5 Warriors and defending OUA bronze medallists opened their season on the road against the always competitive Guelph Gryphons and came up short in a 3-1 loss.
Waterloo took a thrilling opening set 29-27 before Guelph claimed the next three, 25-20, 25-13, 25-17.
The reigning OUA West and U SPORTS Rookie of the Year,
Sarah Glynn (Fredericton/) got off to a great start to her season with 15 kills, two service aces and nine digs. She also added three solo blocks.
Ella Stewart (Ottawa/) was also a factor on the offence with nine kills while adding two solo blocks.
Mackenzie Vallee (Waterdown/) and
Karen Fan (Oakville/) each added six kills while
Claire Gagne (Cambridge/) had 30 assists and
Jenna Gravina (Burlington/) collected a team high 17 digs in the loss.
The Warriors will look to get back on track next weekend when they make their 401 West road trip to face Windsor (Friday at 6pm) and Western (Saturday at 6pm).
