The Warriors women's hockey team used a big third period to earn a 5-1 win over the defending national champions, Guelph on Saturday afternoon.
In what was their first road contest of the season, the black and gold had five different players find the back of the net while rookie netminder
Mikayla Schnarr (Waterloo/) earned her first career win.
Courtney Simpson (Sebringville/) opened the scoring for the Warriors just 4:09 into the opening frame before Guelph knotted the game back up just 29 seconds later.
With the the game tied at 1's midway through the second,
Brooklyn Cole (Kitchener/) took a breakaway pass from
Taytum Clairmont (Waterloo/) and made no mistake with a beautiful shot bardown to put her Warriors up 2-1.
Emma Pye (Oshawa/), Cole and
Cynthia Cavanagh (Scarborough/) would all add goals in the third as the Warriors would skate away with a dominating 5-1 win over the Gryph's.
Clairmont led the way with three helpers while Cole had two goals, including the game winner as Waterloo improved to 1-1-0-0 on the season.
The Warriors are back on home ice next weekend with a pair of games, first on Friday night against Laurentian followed by a battle with Nipissing on Saturday afternoon.Â
