Samantha Burbridge (Brantford/) scored once in regulation and added the lone goal in the shootout as the Warriors sunk the Laurentian Voyageurs 4-3 to start the season 3-0-0.
The Warriors erased an early 2-0 deficit as Laurentian held a two goal lead late into the opening frame before
Taytum Clairmont (Waterloo/) completed a beautiful individual effort with a snipe over the left shoulder of Shanna Dolighan to cut the deficit into half.
The Warriors would remain down 2-1 until late in the middle frame when the flood games opened for both teams. Burbridge tied the game on a powerplay marker, banging in the loose puck before
Emma Pye (Oshawa/) came down the off-wing and snapped home a wrister to put the black and gold up 3-2. Laurentian would however find the equalizer 35 seconds later as Payton Bray banged home a rebound to send the game into the final frame tied at 3's.
Neither team could find the net in the third or overtime and the game would require a shootout. After
Mikayla Schnarr (Waterloo/) turned aside all three Voyageur shooters, Burbridge went down as the final shooter and made no mistake snapping it home between the legs of Dolighan to secure the extra point for Waterloo. Schnarr was solid in net, especially in the third and overtime periods, making 31 stops overall for the win.
The Warriors now with seven points on the season, sit in third in the OUA standings, and will battle Nipissing who is also undefeated at 2-0-0 on the season, today at 2:30pm at the CIF Arena.
