The Guelph Gryphons put up 50 points in each half to down the Warriors 100-86 on Wednesday night in Guelph.
It was Waterloo's second last game of the season and although Waterloo's post-season chances are almost a certainty, the two points to secure a playoff berth would have been a much better feeling for
Justin Gunter and his squad.
Both teams shot relatively well from the field with Guelph finishing at 55.2% while Waterloo operated at 51.7% but the difference in the game came off turnovers where the Gryphons put up 25 points off turnovers.
The Warriors were once again led by
Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) who put up 21 points going 7-for-9 from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the line. Hodzic also collected 11 boards in the loss.
Justin Hardy (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) was the next best Warrior with 15 points including three made shots from downtown.
Simon Petrov (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) rounded out Waterloo's scoring with 13 points.
Guelph's Daniel Dooley led his team with 15 points while the Gryphons got two big performances off the bench with Banky Alade and Craig Valeriote combing for 25 points.
Waterloo will travel to Windsor on Friday with two points on their mind to lock up a post-season berth. Tipoff with the Lancers goes at 8pm.
