A banged up Warriors squad took on the Windsor Lancers in their final regular season game of 2018 and fell by a score of 91-81 but with a McMaster win over Algoma the black and gold clinched their first playoff berth since 2013.
Waterloo (8-16) will finish in the sixth and final playoff spot with their 16 points and will await the results of tonight's final games involving Windsor (vs. Brock) and Laurier (vs. Lakehead) to see who they will battle in the opening round of the playoffs on Wed, February 21.
Waterloo used tonight as a chance to give some bench players good minutes while resting some key guys in hopes they can get healthy for Wednesday night's playoff match.
Simon Petrov (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) led his squad with 21 points while
Justin Malnerich (Cambridge/St. Benedict's Catholic Secondary School) had a strong game tallying 17 points going 5-for-15 from the field with four of those from beyond the arc.
Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) put up 16 points and was one off his season high in rebounds with 16.
Kristian Vande Kemp (Rockwood/John F Ross Collegiate) rounded out Waterloo's attack with five three-pointers for 15 points.
Mike Rocca led the way for the Lancers with a game high 24 points while Chris Poloniato had 13 off the bench including seven straight in the fourth quarter that put the game out of reach.
Waterloo will now prepare for their first post-season game in five seasons which will come on the road against either Windsor or Laurier.
