Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Warriors downed by Guelph in 5 sets

The Warriors dropped a five setter to the Gryphons on Friday night in Guelph.

After a tight opening set that went the way of the Gryphons by a score of 27-25 Waterloo took control of the match winning the next two 25-21 and were seemingly in control until Guelph took advantage of several Waterloo errors and controlled play at the net.

The home side was able to win the next two sets 25-17, 15-8 to claim the match 3-2.

Claire Mackenzie (Vancouver/) was absolutely dominant again for the Warriors with 20 points on 17 kills and three service aces while Kelsey Caza (Waterloo/) also had a strong night with 13.5 points on six kills and five blocks. Claire Gagne (Cambridge/) got most of the playing time at setter earning 30 assists while also picking up 19 digs. Libero Sarah Remedios (Ajax/) led both team sin digs with 26 in a solid losing effort.

For the home side it was Michaela Hellinga providing most of the offence with 20 points thanks to her 18 kills and three blocks.

The win drops the Warriors to 5-8 on the season but they still remain in third in the OUA west while Guelph inched closer to the black and gold with their 4-9 record.

Waterloo and Guelph will reunite again next weekend at the PAC at 6pm.
