Warriors head of the class in school day game victory

Box Score The Warriors women's volleyball team put on a show for 712 fans on Thursday morning at the PAC, defeating the Brock Badgers 3-1 to improve to 2-1 on the season.

Around 600 students from elementary schools across the region packed into the Physical Activities Complex to take in some outstanding OUA volleyball.
Waterloo controlled the match from the get-go winning the opening two sets 25-20, 25-17, before falling into a lull in the third as Brock took it 25-21.  Fortunately for the black and gold they were able to turn back up the pressure in the fourth, winning it easily by a score of 25-13.

"It was an outstanding atmosphere today in our gym and our girls had a lot of fun playing in front of all the children," said head coach Richard Eddy.  "We did a good job of controlling the net play and taking advantage of Brock's mistakes.  We executed our game plan and came away with an important victory."

The Warriors got an incredible performance out of fourth year left side Claire Mackenzie (Vancouver/) who led all players with 19 points.  Mackenzie put away 17 kills while adding eight digs and two blocks.  Right side Brooklyn Gallant (Cambridge/) was also strong in the win with 11 points on nine kills and four assisted blocks.  Jenna Gravina (Burlington/) rounded out the attack with eight kills.

The Warriors offensive setup was divided between setters Claire Gagne (Cambridge/) and Katrine Eistrat (Toronto/) who together combined for 32 assists.

Waterloo was also outstanding from the service line today with nine aces in the game.  Samantha Warner (Ayr/) led the way with an impressive five aces while Kelsey Caza (Waterloo/) had two.

Defensively Gallant collected 13 digs while libero Sarah Remedios (Ajax/) had eight.

For Brock it was Laura Condotta leading the way with nine kills whiel Renee Helmer had eight and Grace Pyatt seven.

The Warriors will now get ready for a five game road trip that starts tomorrow in Hamilton against McMaster.  Waterloo won't be back in the PAC until November 25 when they face Ryerson.
