Warriors kick off season hosting Toronto and Guelph at PAC

The new swim season started a week earlier than usual against traditional season opening foes Toronto and Guelph.

The Warriors have been pushing hard in the first weeks of the year. There are a lot of 1st year swimmers on the team this year and team selection, a team building camping trip and the battle to find a regular training schedule along with all that goes with transitioning to university has left many of these rookies tired but excited about racing with their new team.

Toronto are the two time defending national champs so this was always going to be a challenge to expect a win but two of the Warriors did that - OUA champ in the 100 breast from last year, Jonathan Ramkissoon (Trinidad) showed he is going to be on form early in the year with a win in the 50 breast while Jon has found a training partner in local swimmer Mackenzie Goodwin who won the 200 breast.

Waterloo dominated their match up with Guelph on the men's side. In the end the team scores showed Waterloo defeating Guelph 152-53 while coming up short 112-89 to Toronto.

Josie Andres (Thorndale) showed that she is ready to go to start the year. This 3rd year swimmer won the 50 fly and was 2nd in the 100 fly besides posting a couple of swift relay swims. Other top placings by the women included Michelle Cheng who was 2nd in the 50 breast and Nicole Nowicki who was 3rd in the 200 IM.

The swimmers are back to the training pool for the next couple of weeks before the OUA relay meet on October 15th in Guelph.
