Sweep Finish! Warriors wrap up season with impressive win over Ottawa

Box Score On paper it was clear the Warriors were the underdogs in their final regular season game of the year...on paper. What happens on the court is what matters most and the Warriors certainly capped off their 2015-16 season on a positive note beating the Ottawa Gee Gees in straight sets (15, 24, 16).

What's even more impressive is Ottawa had everything to play for with playoff seeding on the line while Waterloo was playing for pride and the Warriors showed that heart and determination can get you success.

The win was Waterloo's third straight to cap off the year as the black and gold finished with a 7-12 record, good for fifth in the west while Ottawa finished with an 11-8 record to grab the fourth and final playoff spot in the east.

It was a blocking clinic for Casey Clunas (Harriston) and Emily Ibbotson (Cambridge) who combined for six blocks while Sammie Gwozdz (Waterloo) and Alyson Colpitts (Fredericton) were unstoppable on the offence with nine and 11 kills each. Clunas was also a big factor in the attack with eight kills and three service aces. Rounding out Waterloo's successful night was Karly Smith (Lockport) earning 29 assists and Kristen Bartmann (Uxbridge) collecting nine digs.

Leading the way for the Gee Gees was Caroline Lemay who had 13 kills in a losing effort.

Prior to the match Bartmann and Natasha Spaling (Drayton) were recognized as the Warriors graduating seniors and thanked for their commitment and dedication to the black and gold the last five years.
