The Warriors held off the #2 CIS ranked Guelph Gryphons this weekend and showed strong determination in a 22-22 tie. The Warriors move to 1-1-1 on the season.
In a battle that started off in the Gryphons favour, the Warriors fought hard to hold the Gryphons to 22 points, while matching them with 22 of their own.
At half time the Gryphons led the Warriors 22-7, with Waterloo's points coming from a try from
Tina Tuck (Millgrove) and convert my
Megan Colwell (Spencerville).
The Warriors were not satisfied and came back strong in the second half with hard defense and dynamic offensive attack, stopping the Gryphons from crossing the try line again. Waterloo added a try from
Jen McGuire (Stratford), bringing the score to 22-12. Within scoring distance again, the Warriors utilized a Guelph penalty and added three points with the successful kick by Colwell. A quick try minutes later by
Rachel Brown (Cambridge), with the successful kick by Colwell left the Warriors tied 22-22 at the final whistle.
The Warriors prepare this week for their game against the Western Mustangs at home on Sunday, September 28 at 1pm.
