Warriors struggle out of the gate

After opening the season with a disappointing 4-0 loss to the Western Mustangs the Warriors returned home to Warrior Field and put together a strong 90 minutes against Laurier but came up short in a 1-0 loss.

Waterloo opened the game determined to shake off yesterday's loss to the Mustangs but could not find the net in the early going.  The Warriors best chance came off the foot of Mohamed Aborig (Tripoli/) but the opportunity was turned aside by Golden Hawks keeper Brett Harrington.

Laurier would find the one and only goal in the 35th minute as Adrian Bucksam potted his own rebound past rookie keeper Thomas Modjesch (Hateg/).  Bucksam, Laurier's player of the game, was a force for the Hawks in this match with five shots but only getting on past Modjesch who was impressive in his own fashion making several highlight reel saves.  For his efforts Modjesch was named the Warrior player of the game.

Harrington turned aside three shots for the shutout while Modjesch allowed one goal on seven shots.

Waterloo will look for their first win of the season as part of black and gold day on Saturday, September 7 at Warrior Field.
