No. 4 Lions cruise past Warriors in straight sets

Box Score The visiting York Lions took care of the Waterloo women's volleyball team in straight sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-17) at the PAC on Saturday night.

The No. 4 Lions looked shaky to start the match but settled in as the game went on and cruised to their 11th victory of the season.  York is now 11-1 on the season, good for second overall in the OUA while the struggles continue for Waterloo as they drop to 2-12 on the season and sit tied for last spot with RMC.

For Waterloo it was rookie outside Clara Tse (Hong Kong/) leading the charge with eight kills and one service ace.  Tse was also a huge factor defensively with an astounding 18 digs in the match.  Roselyn Zhang (Toronto/) and Danielle Kamps (Vineland Station/) also added to the attack with seven and six kills respectively.  Rookie libero Kristen Bartmann (Uxbridge/) had a solid game with 13 digs while setters Mikaela Klie (/) and Rachel Runnels (Ottawa/) shared the setting duties tallying a combined 27 assists.

The Warriors return to the road next weekend when they travel to Toronto to face the Varsity Blues on Saturday at 2pm.

Comments by Head Coach, Gaby Jobst:

"York certainly outperformed us offensively this weekend, not necessarily because they had more kills but because they made far fewer errors as a team. Every one of their players contributed to their offensive success. We lacked that kind of performance on our side. And I thought we played flat. We had some terrific rallies at times but that constant competitive spirit and energy only came on in spurts. We are working on bettering some team initiatives during training and I saw many of the girls trying to apply those concepts during the match so that aspect for me is a positive. But it's not until we can all perform with those same tactics in mind that we're going to see the success we want."
