The Waterloo women's tennis team had a tough opening weekend for their 2012 campaign coming up against the national champion Montreal Carabins on Saturday and the 2011 OUA finalists Western Mustangs on Sunday.
Saturday, Sept. 15
Montreal 5, Waterloo 2
Playing at home against Montreal, the Women Warriors lost their match-up against the perennial powerhouse Carabins (winners of the last four OUA Championships). Starting her season on a perfect note however, Waterloo's
Tea Lulic (Toronto/) won both her singles and doubles matches (paired with
Vanessa Diaconu (Toronto/)).
Warrior co-captain
Alison Drainie (Toronto/), in her third year on the team, lost in a tough three-setter. The other singles winner was
Lucy Yao (Whitby/) who managed to come back after losing the first set.
Sunday, Sept. 16
Western 6, Waterloo 1
Diaconu continued her winning ways on Sunday against the Mustangs by winning her singles match, the only match tally for the Warriors in singles and doubles.
The women came away from a tough weekend with good focus on what they need to work on to prepare for their next series of matches.
