Results from the World University Golf Championship

The 14th World University Golf Championship wrapped up on Friday at Ypsilon Golf Resort in Liberec, Czech Republic with Team Canada's contingent of 11 post-secondary standout golfers looking to close the competition on a high note before making the trip back home.

Leading the way for Team Canada in the men's individual competition were Charles Côté (Thetford Mines, Que. / Université Laval) and Chris Hemmerich (Kitchener, Ont. / University of Guelph), both of whom finished the championship T19 with a four-day tally of 7-under 281, 11 shots back of men's individual medalist Carlos Xammar Pigem of Spain. Côté closed with a round of 4-under 68, while Hemmerich shot even-par 72 on Friday.

Simon McInnis (Toronto/) was T27 at 4-under 284 for the championship, while Christopher Bevan (Toronto, Ont. / Humber College), Gajan Sivabalasingham (Stouffville/) and Ben Bell (Ottawa, Ont. / Humber College) placed 70th, T71 and T74 respectively.

Megan Woodland (Victoria, B.C. / University of Victoria) was the top Canadian in the women's individual competition, finishing T16 with a four-day tally of 1-over 289, 18 strokes back of winner Camila Hedberg Bertrand of Spain. Devon Rizzo (Brantford/) tied for 28th spot at 10-over 298, while Kylie Barros (Edmonton, Alta. / University of British Columbia), Alyssa Herkel (Port Alberni, B.C. / University of Victoria) and Brynn Tomie (Bedford, N.S. / University of Victoria) placed T41, T46, and T54 respectively.

Côté, Hemmerich, McInnis and Sivabalasingham, all of whom participated in the men's team competition, finished ninth, 38 shots back of the winners from Spain.

Spain also went on to capture the women's team competition title. The Canadian contingent of Barros, Rizzo, and Woodland, placed tenth in the category, 42 shots off the lead.
