Warriors humbled by no. 2 Gryphons in women's rugby action

The Waterloo women's rugby team was humbled on Saturday afternoon following a 54-3 loss at the hands of the no. 2 Guelph Gryphons.  The undefeated Gryphons (3-0) have scored a combined 279 points while only allowing eight against in only three games played. 

Notching the lone points for the Warriors was lock and place kicker Megan Colwell (Spencerville/) on a penalty goal for three points.

Leading the way for the Gryphons was all-star Britt Benn (Napanee, Ont.) with two tries for 10 points while place kicker Stephanie Tibelius (Ottawa, Ont.) added 14 of her 74 season points with four converts and one penalty goal.  Tibelius leads all OUA players in points while Benn is fifth in tries scored with five.

Six different Gryphon players added single tries including OUA leader Jacey Murphy scoring one of her eight tries on the season and former Waterloo Warrior and 2011 athlete of the year Sam Eyles (Erin/) (Goderich, Ont.) who is now taking her masters at Guelph.

The Warriors return home for their first home game of the season on Saturday, October 1 as they host the Toronto Varsity Blues (1-2) at 1pm.  The dominating Gryphons hope to remain perfect on the season as they battle the Brock Badgers (1-2) on home soil.
