Game Summary
For the second straight night the Waterloo men's hockey received strong goaltending as
Keaton Hartigan (Kitchener/) made 37 saves leading his team to a 6-2 victory over the York Lions as part of Think Pink night at the CIF arena. Linemates
Jarrett Schnurr (Waterloo/) and
Andy Smith (Rosetown/) combined for six points while
Tyler Moir (Calgary/) found the back of the net twice for the Warriors.
Waterloo has won four of their last five games and sit third in the OUA west with an 8-4-1 record. York on the other hand is 2-3-0 in their last five and are sixth in the west division with a 11 points (4-6-3).
Waterloo opened the scoring five minutes into the game as
Jeff Einhorn (Red Deer/) fired one from the point for his second goal as a Warrior. The black and gold built on their lead three minutes later with
Andy Smith (Rosetown/) sniping one past York netminder David Blair (Ajax, Ont.).
Smith's goal came at the perfect time as he would honour his mother who is winning the fight against breast cancer by shaving his head at intermission. Smith has raised $790 on his own for Waterloo's fourth annual Think Pink campaign in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation – Ontario Chapter.
Following intermission, York cut into the Warriors lead as Jordan Forfar (Sutton, Ont.) scored his team leading eighth goal of the season on the power play.
The Warriors restored their two goal lead with Moir scoring one of his two goals on the night with Schnurr and Smith picking up assists on the marker.
The Lions would not roll over as they would respond 24 seconds later as Jesse Messier (Keswick, Ont.) found an opening and put the puck past Hartigan for his fifth of the season.
Up 3-2 heading into the third period the Warriors potted three unanswered goals as
Chris Ray (Kelowna/),
Kirt Hill (Winnipeg/) and Moir (his second of the game) found the net to secure the Warrior victory. Ray's goal was his sixth of the season while Hill and Moir notched their 11
th and seventh respectively.
Hartigan earned his fifth win of the season with his 37 stops while Blair dropped to 3-6-0 allowing six goals on 25 shots.
Waterloo continue with their busy schedule as they travel to Oshawa next Thursday to face the UOIT Ridgebacks (2-10-0) who upset the Warriors earlier in the season with an overtime victory.
