Warriors comeback falls short in loss to Windsor; blank UOIT to split weekend games

Friday, Oct. 7 vs. Windsor
Windsor 3, Waterloo 2

The Warriors second half comeback fell short as the Windsor Lancers topped the black and gold 3-2 in an exciting match on Friday afternoon at Warrior Field.  Windsor took a 3-0 lead in the 68th minute before Waterloo responded with two late goals but were unable to find the equalizer.

With the loss the Warriors dropped to 2-8-0 on the season while Windsor improved to 3-3-5 and currently hold the sixth and final playoff spot in the OUA west.

Midfielder Renato Galusic (Windsor, Ont.) opened the scoring for Windsor only six minutes into the match, notching his second of the season.  Only 12 minutes later midfielder Eric Cirovski (Windsor, Ont.) found the net to give Windsor a 2-0 lead heading into half.

At the 68th minute of the second half Cirovski scored his second of the game, second of the season to give Windsor a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Waterloo would not lay down and die with rookie winger Giovan Logie (Trinidad & Tobago/) getting Waterloo on the board at the 85th minute to cut into the Lancers lead.  Three minutes later midfielder Adam Craig (Toronto/Westside S.S) gave Waterloo hope for a come back with his second goal of the season but it was not to be as Waterloo fell by a final score of 3-2.

Waterloo returns to Warrior Field today to battle the UOIT Ridgebacks at 4pm.

Saturday, Oct. 8 vs. UOIT
Waterloo 1, UOIT 0

The Warriors earned their third victory of the season blanking the UOIT Ridgebacks 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.  Hansel Paico-Avilez (Oakville/) picked up his second shutout of the season, both coming against the Ridgebacks.

The only goal of the match came at the 35th minute with third year midfielder Adam Craig (Toronto/Westside S.S) notching his third goal of the season (second of the weekend) to secure the victory for Waterloo.  The Warriors fired 13 more shots on target but could not beat UOIT keeper Michael Heirnrich (Charlottetown, PEI) a second time.  Paico-Avilez stopped all five shots faced to win his third game of the season.

With the win Waterloo improved to 3-8-0 but still sit in eight place, five points behind Windsor for the sixth and final playoff spot.  UOIT fell to 1-9-1 on the season and remain in the basement of the OUA west standings.
