Friday, Sept. 30 vs. McGill
McGill 6, Waterloo 1
The Waterloo women's tennis team came up against a strong McGill team and were beaten 1-6 on Friday evening in Waterloo.
The more accomplished Redmen made short work of the Warriors in the doubles but the Warriors put up some resistance in the singles before succumbing except for #3
Paige Long (Claremont/) who won a close three-setter 6-4, 5-7 and 6-3. It was Long's best match of the season so far.
Rookie
Jessica Dam (Ottawa/) playing in her first ever varsity match at #6 showed little nerves in her debut performance and her play got stronger as the match progressed. The Warriors men and women will be travelling to Western next weekend to compete in the OUA championships.

Sunday, Oct. 2 @ Toronto
Toronto 5, Waterloo 2
The women Warriors lost 5-2 to the Toronto Blues but the matches were harder fought than the score line suggests. Playing the six singles first because of time and court constraints at the Mayfair West club in Toronto, the Warriors # 2
Paige Long (Claremont/), #4
Lucy Yao (Whitby/), #5
Courtney Winter (Toronto/) and #6 Kate Stewart all went to three sets but only rookie Stewart was able to come through with a win.
Losing the first set in a tie break at 7, Stewart came back from 1-4 down in the second set to win it 7-5. A 10-point super tiebreak was played in lieu of a full third set which Stewart won handily 10-3. The women playing their doubles after the singles were all fired up and two of the three teams won their matches to give them the second point. Like their male counterparts, several of the women played their best tennis of the season on Sunday. Next on the calendar are the OUA championships next weekend at Western.
