The Warriors blanked the Ryerson Rams by a score of 4-0 on Friday night at the CIF Arena in Waterloo to win their third straight game and move to 8-5 on the season.  The game was the first cross-over action of the year as the Rams of the East were looking to stop their nine game slide.

Following a tentative opening frame, both teams began to find their stride and intensity picked up in the second with more offensive attack displayed by both squads.

The Warriors would open the scoring on a powerplay midway through the second period as Josh Schappert (Winnipeg, Man.) continued with the hot stick scoring his fifth goal of the season.  Third year defenceman Steve Whitely (Petrolia, Ont.) fired a one-timer on net that was tipped by Jarrett Schnurr (Waterloo, Ont.) and fired home on the rebound by Schappert past Rams netminder Louie George of Waterloo

Heading into the third period up 1-0, Waterloo extended their lead just one minute into the frame as Kyle Sonnenburg (Waterloo, Ont.) found the net on a wrist shot from the far boards that found its way through a screened George.  The goal came just two seconds after Travis Dunstall stepped onto the ice following his late second period hooking penalty.

Waterloo would add two more goals as Kirt Hill (Winnipeg, Man.) and Schappert (second of the game) added goals to lift Waterloo to a 4-0 win.  Chris Ray (Kelowna, B.C.) added an assist on the late third period goal by Schappert to extend his point streak to eight games, notching a point in each game he has played in this season.

Warrior goalie Keaton Hartigan (Kitchener, Ont.) stopped all 23 shots he faced to pick up his first shutout of the season and fifth win.  George stood tall for his Rams stopping 35 of 39 shots in the loss.

Waterloo take their 8-5 record against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday in Waterloo who are riding high after handing the Western Mustangs their first loss of the season defeating the purple squad 5-4 in overtime on Friday night.

The Warrior men's hockey team won their fourth straight game winning a tight battle 3-1 over the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues Saturday night at the CIF arena in Waterloo.

The game started much like the previous Warrior match with the Rams with both teams feeling each other out and lacking intensity on the early going.  Toronto and Waterloo would both muster seven shots a piece in the opening period as both netminders Keaton Hartigan (Kitchener/) for Waterloo and Garrett Sheehan for Toronto shut the door to send the game into the second locked at 0.

With Blake Boddy taking a hooking penalty for Toronto, the Warriors made quick work on their powerplay sneaking an odd goal past Sheehan.  Following a missed wrap around chance by Jarrett Schnurr (Waterloo/) the puck slid out to captain Chris Ray (Kelowna/) who fired the shot off a Toronto defender and with the puck bouncing high up in the air Josh Schappert (Winnipeg/) wacked it on the backhand pass the Blues goalie to score the key opening goal.  Schappert continues to light the lamp with his seventh of the season.  With the assist Chris Ray (Kelowna/) would extend his point streak to nine games (5g, 12a).

Only 30 seconds later, the Blues responded as Robert Kay picked up a rebound off a shot from David Mooney from the point and slid the puck pass Hartigan who had no chance on the play.  With the goal, Toronto seemed to tilt the ice in their favour creating many chances only to have them spoiled by a hot Warrior goalie, Hartigan.

With Hartigan's key saves throughout the second period, Waterloo would give their netminder the lead late in the frame as Kyle Sonnenburg (Waterloo/) showed off his booming shot from the point firing the puck top shelf through a screened Sheehan.  Sheehan had absolutely no chance on this blistering point shot by Sonnenburg; his fourth goal of the season.

With Waterloo up 2-1, the Blues continued to fire pucks from all angles on Hartigan who made save after to save to preserve the lead.  With seven minutes remaining in the game, defenceman Steve Whitely (Petrolia/) fired a shot towards the net that appeared to be going wide but hit the skate of forward Tyler Moir (Calgary, Alta.) as he attacked the net and deflected it into the open goal.  The insurance marker allowed Waterloo to shut down their offensive attack and win the game by a 3-1 score.

The Warriors (9-5-0) continue their cross-conference play as they travel to Kingston next weekend to face the winless RMC Paladins (0-13-1) and Queen's Gaels (5-7-1) in Friday and Saturday night games.
