Waterloo 0, Windsor 0
The Warriors men's soccer battled the Windsor Lancers to a 0-0 draw Saturday evening as part of Windsor's homecoming events. The game was played under the lights at the U of W Stadium.
The tie gave the Warriors a much needed point in the standings but with York and McMaster picking up Saturday afternoon victories the Warriors were knocked down to fifth in the standings.
Keeper Rob McMillan (Newburgh, Ont.) continues to impress as he posted his fourth shutout of the season. Striker Sohyb Basir (Waterloo, Ont.) led the way with the Warriors with two shots but was unable to put one past Lancer net minder Dan Mendonca of London.
The Warriors (5-4-1) will be in tough on Sunday as they visit the undefeated, second ranked Western Mustangs (9-0-1). Solid defence and offensive pressure will be key in giving Waterloo a shot at picking up points in London.
Sunday, Oct. 3 @ Western
Western 1, Waterloo 0
The Warriors conceded an early goal to the Western Mustangs on Sunday afternoon and could not bounce back losing 1-nil to the second ranked Western Mustangs.
Hometown boy Alex Lewis (London, Ont.) scored his first goal of the season for the Mustangs, the only marker needed to decide this match. Rob McMillan (Newburgh/) made seven key stops in the game but the Warriors could not answer the early Lewis goal.
The Warriors should be proud of their performance against one of the best teams in the country (who is yet to lose a game) and have shown they can compete with top teams.
The Warriors return home Thanksgiving weekend to host Western and Windsor on Saturday, October 9 and Sunday, October 10 respectively. If the Warriors want to remain in the playoff picture they will need to pick up some points.
