KINGSTON, Ont. (October 23, 2010) – The No. 7 Queen's Gaels have advanced to the OUA Championship with a 15-8 OUA semifinal win over the No. 9 Waterloo Warriors in women's rugby.
The win guarantees Queen's a berth in the CIS Championship held November 4 – 7 at Trent University in Peterborough, Ont.
Annika Rinas of Oakville, Ont., was the Gaels top scorer with eight points posting a try and a penalty goal in the semifinal win. Andrea Wadsworth of Toronto and Karlye Wong of Ottawa also posted a try each to round out the Gaels scoring
Sam Eyles (Erin) of Erin, Ont., scored Waterloo's only try in the match while Valerie Bigelow of Thornhill, Ont. had a penalty goal.
Queen's held a slim 10-8 advantage before adding a try late in the game to secure the win.
The win marks the first time since 1995 the Gaels have qualified to play in the OUA Championship final.
Queen's will now face the Guelph Gryphons in the OUA Championship game while the Waterloo Warriors host the McMaster Marauders in the bronze medal match.
