Saturday, Oct. 16 @ McMaster
McMaster 1, Waterloo 0
In their final home game of the 2010 conference season, the McMaster Marauders kept the visiting Waterloo Warriors off the board while earning one goal themselves today at Ron Joyce Stadium.
Rookie Waterloo keeper Rob McMillan (Newburgh, Ont.) saved eight Marauder shots today, but he let one by fourth year midfielder Omar Nakeeb (Mississauga, Ont.) slip by to give Mac the win. Marauder goalie Matthew Grant (Brampton, Ont.) continued his stellar season by keeping out ten Warrior shots.
The win gives 7-5-2 Mac 23 points this season for third place in the OUA West while Waterloo drops to 5-7-2. The Marauders will be back on the field tomorrow, October 17, to face the 6-3-4 Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo. With 22 points this season, the Hawks will prove to be tough competition tomorrow as they try to work their way up the provincial ranks.
Sunday, Oct. 17 vs. Guelph
Guelph 3, Waterloo 1
In Waterloo's final home game of the season, they lost a disappointing 3-1 to the Guelph Gryphons. The Warriors were hoping to pick up at least a point in this game to help their playoff hopes. With the loss, the Warriors post-season chances remain unclear with several teams within striking distance.
Guelph opened the scoring at the 11th minute mark of the first half off the foot of Robert Murphy, his fourth goal of the season. Midfielder Dena Iezady would finish off the Warriors adding two straight goals in the second half (55th and 70th minutes). Mohamed Aborig (Tripoli) would spoil the shutout for Guleph keeper Chad Paparoni scoring in the 82 minute.
With the loss the Warriors now sit in fifth place with only one game remaining as they make the short trip to face the Laurier Golden Hawks. Windsor and Brock are on the heels of Waterloo in the standings one and four points back respectively with one game in hand. Warriors will need a big performance against the Hawks to keep their playoff hopes alive.
