Athletics and Recreation Return to Train - FAQs

THERAPY

Can I currently get therapy?

Yes, for acute injuries or post-op rehab, the clinic is available. It will NOT be open for drop-ins. You must sign up following the appropriate procedures, and show up at your designated time.

How do I sign up?

Email waterlootherapy@uwaterloo.ca to speak with one of the athletic therapists to determine your needs.

What if I don’t feel well before my appointment?

Please contact your athletic therapist and inform them of any changes in your symptoms. DO NOT come to the CIF.

Can I come in to the clinic to grab ice or use the cold tubs or foam rollers?

No, the clinic is strictly for therapy, by appointment only. If you need ice after a practice, a student therapist or AT can grab it for you. You will not be permitted to ‘hang out’ after your designated practice time has ended.

Do I have to wear a mask?

To enter the building, you must wear a mask. Masks are also mandatory in the clinic for the duration of your appointment. Your therapist will be wearing a mask as well.

Will athletic therapy be similar to the past?

Yes and no. It will still be available. You will need to sign up for a time in advance, after speaking with your AT, and will need to tap your Watcard upon entrance. There will be no opportunity to do any pre or post-practice activities in the clinic at this time.

Will COVID-19 testing be frequently done?

It will NOT be done by us, and will only be done if the Region of Waterloo Public Health Dept deems it necessary.

PRACTICE

Can I get changed/shower in our team room?

No, at this point varsity change rooms are closed. You will be expected to come to practice ready to go, and can change into your indoor shoes/skates/cleats when you get to the facility. There will be no shower access after practice.

I forgot my shoes in the change room – how do I get them out?

You will need to contact warriorsinfo@uwaterloo.ca to arrange for them to get your items out of your locker for you. Locker room codes have all been changed and doors are secured. Please plan for this PRIOR to your practice. Same day requests will not be granted necessarily.

Can I come in during open rec to practice on my own?

You will have to sign up for an open rec time slot, and follow the appropriate facility access procedures. There is no equipment available for sign out. For basketball, you will be the only one allowed at the net you sign up for.

Will there be trainers at practice? What about water?

There will be a student trainer or an AT nearby. You will be expected to bring your own FULL water bottle to practice. There will be no fountains available but bottle fill stations are available. Do NOT share water bottles with your teammates.

How early can I show up / can I stay later?

You cannot. You must show up 10 minutes before practice waiting in the queue with everyone else, and exit the building at the end of your scheduled practice. The facilities staff needs time to clean all surfaces before the next group arrives.

How do I sign up for practice?

Instructions are coming, but you will be asked to sign up via the Warriors website/FUSION (http://warrior.uwaterloo.ca) for your designated practice time, as determined by your coach. You will also be asked to fill out a COVID screening questionnaire at that time.

What if I don’t feel well before my practice time?

Do NOT show up to your practice. Contact your coach, as well as your Athletic Therapist to inform them, and the next steps will be communicated to you at that time.

Do I have to wear a mask?

To enter the building, you must wear a mask. The mask must remain on until your practice/warm up starts. You are welcome to continue wearing the mask during your training session, but it is not mandatory. You do not need to wear a mask outdoors. Social distancing must be maintained.

Will athletes be responsible for disinfecting equipment pre/post use?

No, therapy staff, facility staff and/or equipment staff will take care of this in between practices.

FACILITY ACCESS

Do I need a Watcard to access the buildings?

YES. You need a TAP functioning WatCard (since 2017 those have been issued). If you show up without your WatCard you will not be allowed to access the building even if you are there for a practice. There are no exceptions to this.

Will there be security/bouncers at facility doors at all times?

No, but you will only be able to access the building through one door, and traffic flow will be clearly directed once inside the building.

Is the CIF open for workouts / open rec?

Yes, following the appropriate sign up procedures.

Is the PAC open?

As of right now, only the pool is open, following the appropriate sign up procedures. The gyms, Warrior Zone and squash courts remain closed.

How do I sign up?

Instructions will be sent to your coaches and will be relayed to each team.

Can I use the change rooms?

No, at this time change rooms remain closed. Please show up to your time with the appropriate clothing, and you can change your shoes when you arrive. We can provide a small basket for keys and wallets, etc, but that is all. Please leave your gym bags in the car/at home.

How does a situation look if we need to use the restroom during practice?

There will be single-occupancy washrooms available next to CIF 1&2

Will there be water access?

Fountains are turned off, but bottle fill stations are available at this time. Please bring your own full water bottle.

Are there towels available?

No. Towel service is suspended at this time.

Will there be laundry service?

No. Personal items are not stored at the facility and laundry services are not being offered at this point.

How many people can be in the gym at one time?

Not a simple answer but generally the indoor limits of 50 per space are in place as long as we can maintain 2m social distancing. Smaller limits have been put in place to support the social distancing.

Do I have to wear a mask inside? Outside?

Inside, yes, to enter the facility. You can remove your mask once you begin training. Outside, it is your up to your discretion.Â
