Student Therapists

Welcome to the University of Waterloo Therapy team website. The focus of the site is to provide student-athletes, coaches, student trainers and other health care professionals information about our clinic, our therapy team and our general philosophy. We hope that you will find the site helpful and informative.

Student trainer applications for the 2025-2026 season are NOW CLOSED. Student trainers are essential volunteers of the UW Athletic Therapy clinic and Interuniversity Sport.  Responsibilities include immediate injury assessment and care; pre-event taping, wrapping, and stretching; and athlete injury prevention. Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C is mandatory. Must be available evenings and weekends.


 

Student therapists are an integral part of the varsity sport experience. Responsibilities include: 

  • Pre-practice/game preparation – taping, wrapping, hydration, field/court set up 

  • In practice/game acute injury management 

  • Injury recognition/assessment on field and in a clinical setting, including concussions  

  • Post-practice/game duties – ice bags, cold tub supervision, stretching 

  • Travel with teams to road games 

  • Provide an exceptional experience for visiting teams and their support staff 

  • Assist athletic therapists with treatments of their athletes 

  • Communication with coaches and other members of the support staff team
