WATERLOO, Ont. - Football quarterback Nick Orr (Caledon/Mayfield Secondary School) and men's soccer goalkeeper Lorin-Alexander Lopez (Toronto, ONT/Danforth CTI) have been named the first W Store Warriors Athletes of the Week, presented by Imprint.
Orr, a fifth-year philosophy major, made his return to the field after missing the second half of the 2025 season with a serious injury. The fan-favourite's incredible recovery was punctuated by a strong return to action in the Warriors' home opener loss to Ottawa on Saturday.
Orr completed 17 of 29 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He also led the team with 85 rushing yards, including a 14-yard touchdown run, ploughing through a Gee-Gees tackler to gain the endzone,.
"Nick flat out played really well, his effort gave our offence and team an opportunity to win that game," said Warriors Head Coach Chris Bertoia.
"More importantly, the steeled resolve, perseverance, and positive mindset this young man demonstrated to be able to be back out on Warrior Field less than a year after an injury on the same field is inspiring not only for all Waterloo Warriors athletes and supporters but for the rest of the OUA and U SPORTS."
Orr and the Warriors are on the road the next two weeks, starting with a Sunday matinee at Carleton. They'll be back on home turf for September 19th's Homecoming bout with Windsor.
Lopez, meanwhile, played all 90+ minutes of both the Warriors season opener on Friday and home opener on Sunday. He made six saves in a loss at Western Friday, and stopped all nine shots to blank Brock in Sunday's win on Warrior Field.
The highlight of the game came in the 90th minute, when Lopez stopped a Badgers penalty kick to keep the score 1-0 and secure the victory for Waterloo.
"Lorin has had a great training camp, culminating in a mature and commanding performance during opening weekend," said Warriors Head Coach Jon Morgan.
Lopez and the Warriors are in Windsor on Friday and return home to face the York Lions on Sunday.
This is the first Warriors Athlete of the Week award for both Orr and Lopez.
