WATERLOO, Ont. - Football's Hayden Crowe (Milton, ONT/Christ the King) and Field Hockey's Sierra Blackburn (Kitchener, ONT/Bluevale Collegiate Institute) have been named this week's W Store Warriors Athletes of the Week, presented by Imprint.
"Crowe had an outstanding football game," said Warriors Head Coach Chris Bertoia. The second-year defensive back has played several positions for the Warriors this season, and was a key contributor to Saturday's Battle of Waterloo win as the starting boundary corner.
Crow had eight solo tackles and an assisted tackle as well as an impressive three pass break-ups, including a pass he knocked away on the final play of the game, with Laurier knocking on the door with a chance to tie it.
Crowe and the Warriors get Thanksgiving weekend to rest while on the bye before welcoming the McMaster Marauders for their senior game on Saturday, October 17.
Blackburn leads the Warriors with six goals this season – good for second in the OUA – two of which came in Sunday's 4-2 victory over Guelph at home. With the Warriors trailing 2-1 to start the second half, Blackburn scored the game-tying and eventual game-winning goals to help Waterloo maintain their undefeated record and spot atop the conference.
"Sierra is an offensive force for the Warriors, who has turned the tide for our team on multiple occasions this year," said Warriors Head Coach Maria Leahy. "She will not be denied, and her intensity continues to inspire our team and win us games."
The Warriors host the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday before heading to Toronto to fa e York on Sunday, in a weekend back-to-back that will likely decide first place in the conference and the right to host the OUA Championship on October 24-25.
This is the first Warriors Athlete of the Week award for both Crowe and Blackburn.
