WATERLOO, Ont. - Cross Country runner Patrick Dean (Whitby, ON/) and Field Hockey goalkeeper Grace Miller (Waterloo, ON/) have been named the W Store Warriors Athletes of the Week, presented by Imprint.
"Fourth-year Patrick Dean (Whitby, ON/) solidified himself a podium finish early on in the Don Mills Open, breaking from the pack with 4km to go," said Cross Country Co-Head Coach Justin Spalvieri.
"Dean finished second overall in a field of 142 and led the men's cross-country team to a sixth-place finish, beating Laurier in the Battle of Waterloo. In a time of 18:37 over the 6km distance (3:06/km), Patrick improved on last year's performance by 36 places and ran 1:03 faster."
Miller, a fifth-year kinesiology major, helped maintain the Warriors' perfect record with a shutout at home against Toronto on Saturday and a 17-save performance at York on Sunday.
"This weekend we faced two top teams in the OUA, beginning on Saturday with UofT. In a very tight back and forth game, Grace made extremely key saves to give the team the win with a clean sheet," said Field Hockey Head Coach Maria Leahy.
"On Sunday, facing the 2024 U SPORTS silver medalists, Grace made a total of 17 saves with only one goal allowed on a short corner."
The Warriors improved to 4-0 and stay atop the conference standings as they look to defend their 2024 OUA title.
This is the first Athlete of the Week award for both Dean and Miller.
